• Established in 2014, Clos Ibai is a small winery in Rioja Alavesa. The owners’ dream is to cultivate a series of unique vineyards over the years, the fruits of which are embodied in the Clos Ibai brand. The name behind the brand refers to the term Clos (a French word that defines the vineyard property enclosed by a stone wall, usually of monastic origin) and the term Ibai (Basque for river, in this case, dedicated to the Ebro River). The combination of the two words is a declaration of intent to produce unique vineyard plots and, on the other hand, a tribute to the river that is the backbone of all Riojan viticulture. We try to express this philosophy in the vineyard by means of organic cultivation, and in the winery, by means of non-interventionist practices, with the aim of producing wines that reflect the place they come from and where the expression of the terroir is the essence of the wine. Clos Ibai will never be a large winery, nor will it put millions of bottles on the market. The project is destined to be small, with the aim of producing terroir wines, micro vinifications with character and personality, always with the taste and pleasure of drinking wine as objectives.
