Cristina San Pedro Rández belongs to the fifth generation of a family dedicated to vineyards and winemaking. In 1994, after her marriage to Raimundo Abando, they jointly created Bodegas Las Orcas, a family winery located in the heart of Rioja Alavesa, Laguardia.

Laguardia, protected by the Sierra de Cantabria, is a place where vineyards and wine are the protagonists. From underground cellars dating back to the Middle Ages to the most modern of the 21st century. A balance between tradition and modernity.

This is the balance that Cristina and Raimundo have sought from the beginning, and that with the incorporation of their daughter Lucía will remain in place. Lucía, a graduate in Agri-Food and Rural Environment Engineering at the Universidad Pública de Navarra and the University of Mendel in Brno (Czech Republic) and having completed the qualifying master’s degree in Agricultural Engineering at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, her philosophy is very clear: to present the essence of our vineyards in the wines, with innovative ideas but always respecting the hard work and tradition that characterise her parents.

The Abando San Pedro family currently works with 10 hectares of its own vineyards and 12 hectares of controlled vineyards, all of them located in the town of Laguardia.

The establishment of the new winery brings with it the desire to unify Raimundo and Cristina’s knowledge, Lucía’s fresh energy and new technologies to produce wines with unique personality that combine terroir, tradition and modernity.
